The emotional journey of being a woman is a powerful one but it is often fraught with shame and judgement. This shame and judgement shuts down some of our most potent powers such as empathy, intuition, compassion and discernment. When we shut down one emotion, we shut down or at the very least dull our others.
Women spend their lives on emotional rollercoasters as we ride the waves of our monthly hormonal journey.
“Women are mocked and judged for their emotional range rather than being taught how to use these waves as a powerful tool for insight, self-governing and ultimately deep feeling.”
Women are mocked and judged for their emotional range rather than being taught how to use these waves as a powerful tool for insight, self governing and ultimately deep feeling. Feeling can be a dirty word for many women who believe they feel too much, are too emotional, too unpredictable…and then comes perimenopause and menopause. Wow…This can feel like a new onslaught of emotional journeying that we are rarely prepared for and it does not have the same waves as our monthly cycle. It can feel challenging, relentless and disorienting.
So here are 3 quick keys to navigating our emotional journeys:
- Acceptance – come to understand and embrace the cyclic natures of all women, the epic and miraculous journey our bodies take each month and through the transition of menopause. Through understanding comes acceptance.
- Lean in to the emotions: women spend most of their lives denying, numbing or hiding the depths of their feelings. The quickest and most powerful way through any emotional journey is to give it space, become present with it and hear it’s messages – this can be done through art, writing, journaling, being in nature and just feeling. We are not designed to just push through, we are designed to feel and flow.
- Give yourself permission to feel. Feeling can be intense and painful, it can ride the highs of joy through to the lows of despair. The more we feel though, the irony is that this is the gateway to greater peace and the highs and lows becoming manageable, and even beautiful. Feeling is a woman’s superpower. It is the core of her intuition and the opening to love, compassion, sensuality and spiritual connection.
